In July of 2009, Montana Import Group hired environmental consultants to determine the feasibility of implementing environmental programs at the dealership. With industry and production looking to sustainability in products and operations, the owners of Montana Import Group looked to "greening" as an opportunity to align the dealership with the current trends in environmental responsibility and to give back to the local community. The employees of Montana Import Group embraced this environmental ethos and during the initial greening assessment, examined the sustainability of operations at the dealership and their part in it. The result of the employee analysis included developing an environmental mission statement and identifying areas of environmental concern and interest.
The themes that arose during the employee environmental assessment are the exact part of the business that the employees have been greening over the last year. The major themes are: 1) water conservation 2) energy conservation 3) sustainable purchasing 4) recycling and waste reduction 5) community engagement and outreach and 6) stewardship. Each of these themes is representative of environmental concerns and interests expressed by employees of Montana Import Group. As a result all staff have taken responsibility in promoting environmental awareness and action by reducing wastewater, reducing energy use, purchasing sustainable products, employing a recycling and waste reduction program and engaging with the environmental community.
